Darcy Higgins, DPT is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and a Human Movement Specialist. He is the Director of Move For Health (TM) Physical Therapy. He has provided personalized, hands-on physical therapy care in the Charlottesville area since 1990.
After 25 years of outpatient practice, Darcy returned to Physical Therapy school in 2015 to earn his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. His continuing education and research have focused on holistic evaluation and treatment including whole-body movement assessment to address the root cause of pain and movement disorders, manual therapy (soft tissue and joint mobilization), therapeutic and functional exercise, core stability and balance training, comprehensive home exercise programs and trigger-point dry needling.
Darcy earned a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University, a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy and Community Health from Old Dominion University and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from Bowdoin College.
He is an expert in Human Movement, a credentialed Clinical Instructor, a Performance Coach and a Functional Capacity Evaluator. He has performed more than 1,000 Functional Capacity Exams and more than 10,000 Functional Movement Assessments. He has additional Direct Access, Functional Movement and 3D MAPS Certifications.
Darcy can provide video human movement analysis to identify movement issues, improve performance and to prevent injuries. Darcy enjoys working with runners, walkers, hikers, sports and recreational athletes. Video-movement analysis can be done in the clinic, at home or at an outside location and can be shared with patients, coaches, physicians and other physical therapists as well.
Darcy’s approach empowers healthy movement with an emphasis on understanding how your body works. With focus on giving you strategies to move well and to be proactive for your best healthspan - being active and moving well to live a longer and healthier life.
Darcy and his wife Kelly live in the Charlottesville community. They raised their daughter and son here and enjoy an active lifestyle with them and their families in the nearby Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. They are especially happy with the addition of their grandson to the family!
